IT’S A COOL 1’000 FOR A’JA
Aces' star breaks the 1,000 point mark, setting single season scoring record
If anyone had any doubts before last night as to who is the best player in the WNBA, they don’t anymore (or at least shouldn’t). Las Vegas Aces star center A’ja Wilson continues to show that she is truly unrivaled on the hardwood, this time by becoming the first player in league history to score 1,000 points in a season.
Up 14 with two minutes left, A’ja caught a pass at the top of the key and dribbled right past the lunging Connecticut Sun defender before stopping in the lane for a smooth pull-up fadeaway. If there is any signature shot in the league, this is it, so it’s only fitting that this was the move that broke the century scoring mark.
Point number 1,000 for A'ja Wilson. 👏

Averaging 27 points a game, Wilson has already secured the highest scoring average in league history. Even if she doesn’t score a single point in the final two games of the season (which she will), she will hold the title.
Even though it’s been a disappointing season for the two-time defending champs, they are rounding into form at just the right time. Vegas is 8-2 in their last ten. With a season finale against the lowly Dallas Wings, tomorrow’s game against the Storm is the team’s only competitive match left to play.
These last two games have massive implications for the playoff picture. If the Aces win out and the Sun lose their last two games, they will steal the three seed.
BUT, if the Storm can beat the Aces, these two teams will actually face off against each other in the first round of the playoffs. It’ll be interesting to see how hard the Storm actually play in this game. Obviously you never want to thrown games, and I’m sure Seattle believes they can beat anyone in the league, but nobody would fault them for trying to avoid the dynastic Aces.
One thing we do know for sure: A’ja is going to be hyper motivated to win both these games. Maybe I’ll be writing in a few days about her becoming the first player to score 1,100 players in a season.
